Tinker Hatfield could be inspired by anything when it comes to the Air Jordan line. On the Air Jordan 7 when Tinker was in Portland, he saw a poster that was African art, influenced by an Afropop Worldwide. The person in the poster was playing a guitar shaped like Africa. Around the time when Tinker was ready to design the Air Jordan VII Michael sat down with him and mentioned that he wanted the shoe to “stay young and interesting, while remaining sophisticated”.

Like today's re-release of the "Playoff" Air Jordan Retro 13, the "Bordeaux" Jordan 7 will be making a return to retail as a retro for the first time this year. Only the wait for Bordeauxs has been even longer, having originally released in 1992. One of the oddball colorways of the original Jordan runs, the shoe features a light graphite base with black nubuck overlays. The "Bordeaux" nickname comes from the dark purple color used for accenting on the inner bootie, ankle Jumpman, heel and outsole. Other colors like yellow, blue and green help fill in the signature Jordan 7 multi-color patterns.

released in February 1992, making a impact with the extraordinary color combination which featured Black / Light Graphite – Bordeaux.During the playoffs back in 1992, Michael Jordan was invited by Michael Jackson to be apart of his upcoming single “Jam”. A funny picture appeared online with Michael Jordan playing 1 on 1 with Michael Jackson, while he was wearing the OG Air Jordan 7 (VII) Bordeaux.
This colorway of the original Air Jordan VII debuted in the 1992 NBA Playoffs. These were also seen in Michael Jackson’s music video for his song “Jam” in which Michael Jordan wore them during a game of one-on-one with Jacko. En route to his second consecutive NBA championship, this shoes legacy would rise as it has become one of the most popular Air Jordan’s of all time. There was also alot of hurt feelings in 2008 when the “Hare” VIIs were finally confirmed as being the retro Air Jordan VII in their Countdown Package rather then the Bordeauxs. These remain one of the few in the dwindling list of cheap Jordans never to be retroed.
